Kids love temporary tattoos. Add a little glitter to the mix and they are super excited!
Glitter tattoos are all the rage, and the perfect extra touch of fun for summer carnivals, birthday parties and holiday celebrations. The girls and I experimented recently and created some really cute July Fourth glitter tattoos!
For our tattoos, the girls and I used ALEX’s Sparkle Tattoo Parlor – Cool Glam kit. It includes stencils, glue, brushes and four colors of glitter; we choose the star stencil and the red, silver and blue glitter to use for our July Fourth theme.
First step is to clean the area of skin where the glitter tattoo will be placed. Then lay the stencil on the skin. The stencils are sticky on the back which is important to help it stay in place. Make sure you press down firmly on the stencil so you don’t have accidental leaks along the edges. These stencils can be reused several times.
The glue is in a bottle similar to nail polish and you just lightly brush it on the skin. A little goes a long way, and this bottle will last you a long time. We’ve done over 20 glitter tattoos with this one craft kit between my kiddos and their friends, and have yet to run out of glue or glitter!
Then remove the stencil and let the glue dry for a few minutes. It will be tacky still, and this is perfect for adhering the glitter to the skin.
Using the smaller brush that comes in the kit, apply your desired color of glitter over the glue, covering all the glue. Afterward, go back with the larger brush and brush away excess glitter. This will help create a clean shape.
Once you’ve done a few, try free handing a design to create a custom glitter tattoo! I did this patriotic heart on my daughter’s cheek that turned out really fantastic!
The glitter tattoos last 3-5 days in our experience, but if you’re worried about the durability, give it a quick spray of hairspray to give it a finishing touch.
The possibilities with glitter tattoos are endless! Create your own unique stencils and theme the tattoos for any event!
